Abstract
We analyze a quasi-one-dimensional Poisson-Nernst Planck system with large permanent charges and multiple cations. In the framework of geometric singular perturbation theory, the existence and local uniqueness result is established, from which approximated expressions of individual fluxes are derived, critical for our further study of the large permanent charge effects on ionic flows. Detailed characterization of the nonlinear interactions among different system parameters is provided, from which one is able to observe distinct dynamics of ionic flows, and better understand the mechanisms of ionic flows through membrane channels. More importantly, this cannot be detected via current technology.
