This seminar talks about the algorithms which compute global geometry structures, and furthermore discusses their potential applications in topological materials and quantum computer. In differential geometry, local geometric properties work together to produce global structures, such as harmonic one-form, foliation, holomorphic quadratic differentials, conformal structures, and so on. The local properties, global geometry structures, and their relationship have been fully studied in mathematical community in last century. However, their applications are still not fully explored. Around 2000, with the seminar work of Gu-Yau algorithm, computer graphics researchers began to design algorithms to compute global geometry structures on surfaces to solve many difficult mesh modeling problems. The experience and achieved advances in computation of global geometry structures could bridge pure math and their applications in topological materials and quantum computer. In this seminar, we initiate this ambitious goal of exploring research possibility among computational global geometry structures, topological materials and quantum computer.
