Abstract
Many questions in number theory concern the nonvanishing of determinants of square matrices of logarithms (complex or p-adic) of algebraic numbers. (Weak) Schanuel’s conjecture is an uber conjecture about logarithms of algebraic numbers. Jointly with Samit Dasgupta, I formulated the matrix coefficient conjecture, that implies some conjectures of interest in algebraic number theory, and is weaker than Schanuel’s conjecture. In this talk I will recall known results in transcendental number theory, state a formulation of the matrix coefficient conjecture, its implications in Iwasawa theory, and relation with other conjectures. If time permits I will also talk about a proposed strategy.
