Abstract
This week we will review a paper submitted to Current Genomics: The Yellow Brick Road: A Comparative Study of Plant Genome Assembly Using ONT Sequences with a Pipeline for Beginners. This paper bases on the fact that the assembly process of plant genome which are large and rich in repetitive sequences is a big challenge. The authors sequenced the whole genome of three South American Myrtaceae species and testing different assembling strategies using four different assemblers (Canu, Flye, Raven, and Shasta, with and without polishing) and they concluded that there is no unique approach for a reliable assembly of whole plant genomes, as each species has its own characteristics, making the assembly exclusive.
