Abstract
In order to discuss whether the discrete Fourier transform can be used to make a distinction between exons and introns, we will first give a rundown of existing approaches to modeling gene regions. Ideally, different gene regions (introns, CDS, ncRNAs, UTRs, etc.) should be well separated. Previously, our group has used the discrete Fourier transform to categorize genomes, and next we will explore its potential at a finer level.
