Abstract
I will discuss the ongoing work on the classification of so-called Nichols algebras of diagonal type and explain how they are connected to quantum groups. This problem is naturally dual to the description of relations in the generalized shuffle algebra, which can be reformulated in homological terms. I will state a theorem relating the shuffle algebra's homology to the homology of a local system on a configuration space. Finally, I will suggest a conjecture regarding the latter.
