Abstract
Symmetric product orbifolds form a class of two-dimensional CFTs that in the large-N limit have many universal properties. Some of these universal properties agree with expectations from gravity, in particular the thermal partition function. In this talk I will argue that thermal correlation functions in this class of CFTs are not only universal, but identical to those computed in the BTZ background. I will discuss the implications of this result for holography and in particular with regards to recent developments using von Neumann algebras.
