Abstract
The first part of the talk will be an introduction to toroidal quantum groups with a focus on their applications in gauge and string theory. In the second part, I will explain how to relate the Wakimoto representations of quantum affine sl(N) algebras using the ‘surface defect’ deformation of the quantum toroidal sl(N) algebra, and why this is relevant to the BPS/CFT & Bethe/gauge correspondences.
