Abstract
After a broad introduction to large-time dynamics, the talk will focus on a part of the frontier of our current understanding of nonlinear stability of traveling waves of partial differential equations, especially on how spectral stability implies nonlinear stability and which kind of dynamics may be expected.
We shall highlight main expected difficulties related to the stability of discontinuous and/or characteristic waves of hyperbolic systems, and show a few significant steps obtained by the speaker with respectively Vincent Duchêne (Rennes), Gregory Faye (Toulouse) and Louis Garénaux (Karslruhe).
Speaker Intro
Luis Miguel Rodrigues is a professor at IRMAR, Rennes 1, since 2015. Graduating from ENS Lyon and obtaining his habilitation in 2013 from the Institute Camille Jordan (Lyon 1) and Ph.D. in 2007 from the Institute Fourier (Grenoble 1), Prof. Rodrigues has a strong research background in partial differential equations (PDEs), with notable contributions in fluid dynamics and kinetic theory. He received the SIAG-APDE prize of SIAM for analysis of PDEs in 2015 and was a junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France from 2018-2023.
