Abstract
We shall attempt to survey how different phenomena revolving around index theory may be understood through factoring K-theory, or rather K-homology classes. As motivation, we will first study how the Atiyah-Singer index theorem is be derived from this perspective, and will study then some other recent applications, related notably to Witten-type localization phenomena. Time permitting, we’ll discuss more general contexts where such a perspective may become especially useful.
