Shallow water equations and the numerical methods
Fluid models are widely used in th applications related to rivers, oceans, and reservoirs, such as the design and management of hydraulic projects. The research in this field is of great importance in both academics and engineering. The mini course focuses on the popular fluid dynamic models and their numerical methods. We will start with the well-known shallow water equations and the relevant mathematical theory, including the characteristic methods and the Riemann problems. Then we will introduce the classic finite volume methods. The course will finish up with the state-of-art numerical methods for the shallow water equations with nonconstant riverbed.
