Congratulations! Dr. Yaqing Wang Selected for the 2025 Beijing Nova Program
9th July, 2025
Recently, the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission announced the list of awardees for the 2025 Beijing Nova Program. Dr. Yaqing Wang, Associate Researcher at the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications (BIMSA), has been selected for the “Innovation Nova” track of this prestigious program.
Dr. Yaqing Wang is currently an Associate Researcher at BIMSA. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2019, under the supervision of Professors Lionel M. Ni and James T. Kwok, with a research focus on machine learning. After graduation, she worked at Baidu Research, where she focused on cold-start recommendation, retrieval intent recognition, large models and agent optimization, and AI for Science. Her work has led to the successful deployment of several core technologies.
Guided by the principle of "Occam's Razor," Dr. Wang’s research aims to uncover interpretable scientific mechanisms in an efficient and cost-effective manner to address complex real-world problems. Her current research interests include few-shot learning, meta-learning, in-context learning, the modeling of large language models and agents, and AI for science and mathematics (AI + X), bridging theoretical innovation and practical application.
Dr. Wang has published over 30 papers in top-tier international conferences and journals, including NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, KDD, TheWebConf, SIGIR, EMNLP, TPAMI, JMLR, and TIP, with more than 4,800 citations. She has served as a key contributor to major national research projects, including the Ministry of Science and Technology’s “AI 2030” initiative and a general program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. She is a Senior Program Committee member for IJCAI and AAAI, and a regular reviewer for ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, and TPAMI. In 2024, she was named among the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier.
The Beijing Nova Program, jointly administered by the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Zhongguancun Administrative Committee, aims to identify and support young scientific talents with strong political integrity, outstanding innovation capabilities, and high development potential. Established in 1993, the program is one of the most influential youth talent initiatives in Beijing, having supported over 3,000 outstanding young researchers, including 13 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Engineering. The 2025 program selected 155 young scientists through a rigorous review process, including 150 from the general track and 5 from joint nominations. Dr. Wang was selected based on her exceptional research achievements and future potential.
We proudly share this joyful news!
