BIMSA Holds "Planting New Plum Blossoms for the Future" Spring Tree-Planting and Sowing Activity
18th April, 2026
As spring breezes bring greenery and all things thrive, the "Government, Enterprise, University and Research Institute Join Hands to Plant New Plum Blossoms for the Future" Spring Tree-Planting and Sowing Activity, co-hosted by the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications (BIMSA), Qiuzhen College of Tsinghua University, the People's Government of Yanqi Town, Huairou District, COMAC Beijing Civil Aircraft Technology Research Center, and Beijing Forestry University, was successfully held at the AI Farm of Fangezhuang Village, Yanqi Town on April 18, 2026. Approximately 150 representatives, including leaders, experts, professors, faculty and students from the five organizations, gathered together to plant new greenery, discuss cooperation, and draw a beautiful blueprint for the integrated development of science and ecology.
At 9:30 a.m., the tree-planting activity officially kicked off, presided over by Li Jianjun, Mayor of Yanqi Town. Mu Zongsheng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Yanqi Town; Wang Xinlin, Executive Deputy Director of the Dream Studio of COMAC Beijing Research Center; Sun Lidan, Professor of the School of Landscape Architecture, Beijing Forestry University; Long Fei, Vice President of BIMSA; Zhang Yihua, Vice President of Qiuzhen College, Tsinghua University; and Wu Rongling, Vice President of BIMSA, delivered speeches successively. The guests elaborated on the significance of this activity from the perspectives of scientific and technological innovation, ecological construction, talent cultivation, and institute-local cooperation, and expressed their best wishes for the vigorous growth of the plum grove and the continuous deepening of multi-party collaboration.
This activity takes plum blossoms as its spiritual symbol. The plum blossom's character of perseverance and heralding spring without competing for glory is highly consistent with the spirit of scientific researchers who devote themselves to research and are willing to make contributions. The tree-planting site was a scene of bustling activity. Faculty and student representatives from BIMSA and participants from other organizations worked in division and cooperation with tacit understanding, shoveling soil, supporting saplings, filling soil around the roots, and carrying buckets to water them, performing every link meticulously. Together, they planted five varieties of plum saplings symbolizing the scientific research spirit: Prunus × blireana 'Meiren', Prunus mume 'Guli Hong', Prunus mume 'Jiang Mei', Prunus mume 'Da Gongfen', and Prunus mume 'Feng Hou'. At the same time, they sowed various vegetable seeds in the fields, planting hope and good expectations for the future in the spring soil.

It is worth noting that these hand-planted plum blossoms will serve as an important practical starting point for BIMSA's scientific research project "Artificial Intelligence Empowered Plum Blossom Breeding". Relying on the artificial intelligence monitoring technology of the "Science and Technology Courtyard" in Fangezhuang Village, the project will collect real-time soil temperature and humidity data through Internet of Things sensors, carry out health management using a pest and disease monitoring and early warning system, and optimize water and fertilizer allocation through data analysis to achieve refined and intelligent maintenance.
This activity deeply integrates labor practice with scientific research exploration, not only sowing green hope in the fields of the motherland, but also integrating ancient agricultural civilization with cutting-edge mathematical wisdom. In the future, BIMSA will continue to take root in Yanqi, empower the land with scientific research, and write a new chapter of science and technology-assisted agriculture, institute-local collaboration, and ecological priority.
