Institut Le Rosey × BIMSA: A Bridge of Mathematics
15th April, 2026
On April 14, 2026, the event "A Bridge of Mathematics · A Confluence of Minds for the Future — Youth Dialogue between Institut Le Rosey of Switzerland and Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications (BIMSA)" was successfully held at BIMSA. This event was co-organized by BIMSA and Qiuzhen College, Tsinghua University. Christophe Gudin, General Director of Institut Le Rosey, led a delegation of faculty and students to visit and conduct in-depth exchanges with teachers and students from BIMSA and Qiuzhen College.

At the beginning of the event, Zhu Yi, Vice President of BIMSA, delivered a welcome speech, extending a warm welcome to the visiting faculty and students from Institut Le Rosey, and briefly introduced the development and academic positioning of the institute. He pointed out that BIMSA is committed to promoting cutting-edge research in mathematics and related fields, emphasized the indispensable supporting role of basic science in artificial intelligence, quantum technology, economic finance and other fields, and expressed the hope that young students could broaden their horizons and stimulate their interests through this exchange.

In the academic presentation session, three young scholars from BIMSA delivered excellent presentations respectively:
- Shailesh Lal gave a presentation titled "Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Physics", introducing the applications of machine learning in string theory and black hole research;
- Zhang Jiehang delivered a talk entitled "Quantum Computing in High-Dimensional Atomic Systems", sharing the latest progress in cold atom and quantum information experiments;
- Yan Xing focused on "Applications of Mathematics in Economics and Finance", explaining cutting-edge explorations of machine learning in financial technology and risk management.
After the presentations, the Q&A session began. Students on site actively raised questions and conducted in-depth exchanges with the speakers, creating a warm atmosphere. Subsequently, Qiuzhen College and Institut Le Rosey held a brief and friendly gift exchange ceremony. Both sides exchanged blessings and expressed their good wishes for further strengthening exchanges and cooperation. Christophe Gudin delivered a speech, highly praising the organization and content of this event, and looking forward to more forms of academic and educational cooperation in the future.
During the event, the visiting faculty and students also visited the BIMSA Mathematics Exhibition Hall, gained an in-depth understanding of the historical context of mathematical development and its wide applications in modern science and technology, and highly recognized the research environment and academic atmosphere of the institute.
This youth dialogue event not only deepened the mutual understanding between China and Switzerland in basic science education and research, but also built a platform for face-to-face exchanges among young students, fully embodying the event's theme of "using mathematics as a bridge to promote the convergence of ideas".
