摘要
A central goal of particle physics is to understand the fundamental building blocks of nature and their interactions. Despite the success of the Standard Model, the search for a unified framework including gravity leads naturally to string theory. In this context, Calabi-Yau geometry enters as a key ingredient of compactification, linking geometric structures to physical properties of the resulting four-dimensional theory. In this talk, I will give a general introduction to this geometry-physics correspondence. I will explain how compactification on Calabi-Yau manifolds gives rise to a dictionary between geometry and particle physics, and discuss several examples of how the detailed geometry of Calabi-Yau manifolds leads to questions and opportunities in string model building. Finally, I will conclude with several open questions that motivate my current research.
