A fundamental problem is to determine whether a compact manifold admits a complex structure. Even for $S^6$, it is still unknown. In this talk, I will discuss the interaction between (almost) complex structures and isoparametric theory, focusing on the existence and construction of certain (almost) complex structures on isoparametric hypersurfaces and focal submanifolds in unit spheres.
