摘要
The idea of an isolated system is fundamental in physics, particularly in GR. Mathematically, it is realised as an asymptotically flat space-time. Penrose's geometric insights allow us to conformally compactify such a space-time by introducing a conformal boundary called null-infinity. It is a null hypersurface which inherits many properties of Minkowski space and on which the non-linear fields of the space-time leave many interesting "imprints. In this series of talks, I will discuss the foundations of null-infinity, introduce the structures thereon and point to open problems.

演讲者介绍
Joerg Frauendiener received his PhD at the University of Tuebingen. His research interests are applications of geometric methods in the natural sciences. More specifically, he worke on mathematical and numerical issues in General Relativity. Most recently, he developed a computational framework based on Penrose's idea of conformal compactification for analysing global properties of asymptotically flat space-times using Friedrich's conformal field equations. He has held visiting positions in Krakow, Oslo, Dijon, and Paris. He is Chair of Applied Mathematics at the University of Otago in New Zealand since 2007.
