摘要
Asymmetric binaries, such as intermediate- and extreme-mass-ratio inspirals (IMRIs and EMRIs), will be critical sources for next-generation gravitational-wave detectors such as LISA. These systems are modelled with an asymptotic approximation method known as self-force theory. In this talk, I discuss the foundations of self-force theory, its applications to gravitational waveform modeling, and the current state of the art in the field.

Adam Pound is a Royal Society University Research Fellow, ERC/UKRI Consolidator Grant holder, and Professor in the School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton. He has published in fields ranging from experimental polymer physics to theoretical astrophysics. His research focuses on classical general relativity and gravitational-wave science, where he has made many contributions to the theoretical understanding of relativistic motion and binary mechanics, particularly in the development of accurate models of extreme-mass-ratio inspirals (EMRIs). He is co-chair of the LISA Consortium's Waveforms Working Group and co-lead of the EMRI waveforms subunit in the LISA Distributed Data Processing Centre.
