Shallow water equations and the numerical methods

Description:

Fluid models are widely used in th applications related to rivers, oceans, and reservoirs, such as the design and management of hydraulic projects. The research in this field is of great importance  in both academics and engineering. The mini course focuses on the popular fluid dynamic models and their numerical methods. We will start with the well-known shallow water equations and the relevant  mathematical theory, including the characteristic methods and the Riemann problems. Then we will introduce the classic finite volume methods. The course will finish up with the state-of-art numerical methods for the shallow water equations with nonconstant riverbed.

 

Introduction to the speaker

陈国贤,武汉大学数学与统计学院副教授。

研究领域:

Adaptive moving mesh method in Computational fluid dynamics, Positive preserving schemes, Well-balanced scheme for hyperbolic systems with source terms, Interval linear programming.

1997-2001年吉首大学本科,2001-2004年首都师范大学硕士,2004-2008年北京大学博士。

荣誉奖项:LE STUDIUM/Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research Fellowship, LE STUDIUM Loire Valley Institute for Advanced Studies.
