A New Bridge for China-Latin America Scientific Collaboration

ABOUT

To deepen the already strong scientific ties between China and Latin America, we propose the establishment of the China-Latin America Mathematics Center (CLAMC).

The CLAMC will serve as the anchor institution for mathematical collaboration between our regions, providing a dedicated home for joint research, scholar exchange, and talent development. This center will be the foundational pillar of a new, larger International Campus for Mathematical Research and Applications (ICMRA) in Haidian District, Beijing, a visionary project designed to house similar centers for Africa and South Central Asia, creating an unparalleled ecosystem for global scientific partnership.

Building Momentum from Day One

To begin our collaboration ahead of the CLAMC's establishment, we will launch the ICMRA Visiting Scholars Program in 2026.

This program serves as the first step toward building a lasting research community that connects mathematicians across China and Latin America.

scope

Scope

We will support 100 Latin American scholars annually to visit one of our three research centers in China.

host institutions

Host Institutions

The program will be a collaborative effort among China's premier centers — BIMSA, SIMIS, HIMIS, and IMS (CUHK)

financial support

Financial Support

Each scholar will receive up to $2,000 USD for travel and $1,300 USD for lodging.

Candidates will be nominated by members of the Scientific Advisory Committee or by their regional International Mathematical Union (IMU) member organization.

Future Expansion

We are working towards establishing a physical ICMRA campus in Beijing, where the CLAMC will operate as a permanent institution.

future expansion

Scientific Advisory Committee

The inaugural advisory committee will be a joint committee ensuring a balanced and collaborative scientific vision.

Vision & Mission

Establishing a framework for global South-South scientific cooperation

To create the world's leading hub for mathematical collaboration between China and developing countries. The CLAMC will serve as a model for future centers within the ICMRA, establishing a framework for global South-South scientific cooperation, inspired by the successful residential model of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP).

Anchor Bilateral Collaboration

Host joint research projects, workshops, and long-term scholar exchanges between Chinese and Latin American institutions

Leverage Regional Strength

Build upon the world-class reputation of partners like Brazil's Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA), University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), to set a joint scientific agenda.

Develop Human Capital

Create dedicated programs for doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers from Latin America.
